i have an old vw camper van and i am looking at a portable gas heater to heat it up during the winter but i am worried that i may fall asleep with the heater on and die of carbon monoxide poisoning. I have been told to open all the windows but that would just make my van cold.
Burning LPG in a camper van is a recipe for disaster. Why not look into buying a cab night heater as used in trucks, I’m sure there must be a 12V version available somewhere or it might be possible to adapt the 24V version. Good luck, Gizz.

Hi there, you need some ventilation in van, you can buy a carbon monoxide alarm which runs on batteries, this puts out an audible noise when too much gas in your camper. the other thing you have to watch is that there is no combustible material left near heater. so maybe advisable to get smoke alarm as well Jock.

The new catalytic heaters are fab. I have used one for 15 years in several motor homes trailers and vw campers. They put out so much heat you’ll be running the roof vent 1/2 open and sleeping in your skives most of the time.
Also VW Westfalia campers had an outside vented heater which- apart from being an acrobat to light worked great with all the windows up.
