We just came across this website which details the pro’s and con’s of owning a Mobile Catering business in the UK.  The business itself looks great and those Cornish Pasties look really tasty when you look at their website.

Can’t quite make out what kind of catering van they are using but it looks like it’s got an oven and a refrigerator installed.  Really cool piece of kit, if anyone knows who they are and where they get their catering vans from please shout up!

I own a van which is currently having work done to her, once the work is finishing she needs to be towed to a nearby MOT center, now obviously i cant just nip outside and see if there is a front tow bar fitted to the van but i also cant find anything relevant in my Haynes manual or on the internet, is a front tow bar an added accessory? Also without any rot to the front of the van would it be strong enough to be pulled without a proper tow bar fitted?

You do know that if you book the MOT you can drive there without one?
If you tow it on the highway it must have an MOT unless you are going to a pre booked MOT
Cars are fitted with a tow eye at the back but only the newer ones get a removable tow eye at the front.
The car being towed has a rope tied normally to the front anti roll bar as this is the lowest point. Or the chassis as this is the strongest.
In the Army we had tow hooks fitted on the front and rear bumpers so we could use ropes or tow bars, but they were solid and welded to extentions of the chassis

Lots of online sellers but I couldn’t find any brick and mortar stores with this kind of inventory. You’d really have to do some digging in your local area in vintage stores, antique stores, flea markets, lots of footwork involved. Good luck!

I am interested in the costs involved and have no previous experience so any information is a great help. am i wasting my time in trying to save money doing it this way?

It will be a gray market car. A gray market car is a vehicle that will not pass USA safety standards. As a dealer I am not allowed to sell this vehicle or it is not allowed for any dealers to sell this vehicle. To me it a total worthless to have it shipped here.

Is it simply a case of running a cable from my alternator straight to my battery??

I agree you should leave it to someone who knows what they are doing.
These old VWs can burn if wired wrong.
