overdrive lowers the rpm of your engine at highway speeds saving gas and reducing wear.if you have a 4 barrel carb on the engine it is not stock and have no way to even guess at what kind of mileage you should be getting.it should be fuel injected.as for the rest,you have some work ahead of you,but it sounds worthwhile and you should have a nice project.

overdrive will save you fuel on the highway, and sometimes around town as long as you arent climbing any grades, your overdrive usually wont kick in below 50mph sounds like a lot of work, I do a little work on the side, but then it depends on where you live a little at a time
